Leaving Egypt is described as &quot;going <i>up</i>&quot; for two reasons: firstly, the <i>Goshen</i> region where <i>Yisra&eacute;l</i> had been living (in the Nile Delta) is very low-lying, so the people &quot;went up&quot; in a very literal sense when they left; and secondly, because Egypt was a God-less place so that <i>Yisra&eacute;l</i> also &quot;went up&quot; in a spiritual sense when they left there.<br><b>&quot;before Him&quot;</b> - almost immediately after leaving Egypt, <i>Yisra&eacute;l</i> appeared before God at Mount <i>H#orev</i> in the <i>Sinai</i> Desert.<br><b>&quot;like a suckling babe&quot;</b> - a similar metaphor for the &quot;newly-born&quot; guilt and innocence are relative concepts and even if they had been guilty of minor infringements they did not deserve the inhuman treatment to which they were subjected.<br><br>It is common for christians to think of the terms &quot;righteous&quot; and &quot;wicked&quot; as absolutes, referring to people who are either <i>totally</i> &quot;good&quot; or <i>thoroughly</i> &quot;evil&quot; &minus; but life is not that black-and-white. No man is ever 100% &quot;good&quot; <u><b><i>OR</i></b></u> 100% &quot;evil&quot; &minus; all of us are somewhere in between.
