T'nach concordance of the Hebrew word מָשִׁיחַ (mashiyah)

The Hebrew word מָשִׁיחַ mashiyah occurs 39 times in the T'nach, in eleven distinct inflections; of these, 34 occurrences are nouns ("a messiah") and five are adjectives ("smeared with oil"):

A - uses as a noun

1. מָשִׁיחַ - two cases

Usage: once as מָשִׁיחַ נָגִיד ("a messiah-ruler"), once as מָשִׁיחַ ("a messiah")

And then, after those 62 septets, a messiah will be cut off and will be no more, and the nation of the coming 'ruler' will destroy the city and Temple; but [that nation] will end in upheaval, and at the end of the war it will collapse in ruins.Daniyyel 9:26

 

2. מְשִׁיחַ - eight cases

Usage: seven times as מְשִׁיחַ יְיָ ("Adonai's messiah"), once as מְשִׁיחַ אֱלֹהֵי יַעֲקֹב ("Ya'akov's God's messiah")
 
וַיֹּ֨אמֶר לַֽאֲנָשָׁ֜יו חָלִ֧ילָה לִּ֣י מֵֽייָ֗ אִם־אֶעֱשֶׂה֩ אֶת־הַדָּבָ֨ר הַזֶּ֤ה לַֽאדֹנִי֙ לִמְשִׁ֣יחַ יְיָ֔ לִשְׁלֹ֥חַ יָדִ֖י בּ֑וֹ כִּֽי־מְשִׁ֥יחַ יְיָ֖ הֽוּא׃שְׁמוּאֵל א כד ו

Our life-breath,
Adonai's messiah,
was caught in their traps;
about whom we had said, "We will live among the nations under his protection."		Eichah 4:20

 

3. בִּמְשִׁיחַ - three cases

Usage: three times as בִּמְשִׁיחַ יְיָ ("Adonai's messiah")
 
וַיֹּ֧אמֶר דָּוִ֛ד אֶל־אֲבִישַׁ֖י אַל־תַּשְׁחִיתֵ֑הוּ כִּ֠י מִ֣י שָׁלַ֥ח יָד֛וֹ בִּמְשִׁ֥יחַ יְיָ֖ וְנִקָּֽה׃שְׁמוּאֵל א כו ט
But David said to Avishai, "Don't destroy him - who can stretch his hand out against Adonai's messiah and be considered blameless?"Shmuel Alef 26:9

חָלִ֤ילָה לִּי֙ מֵֽייָ֔ מִשְּׁלֹ֥חַ יָדִ֖י בִּמְשִׁ֣יחַ יְיָ֑ וְ֠עַתָּה קַח־נָ֨א אֶֽת־הַֽחֲנִ֜ית אֲשֶׁ֧ר מְרַֽאֲשֹׁתָ֛יו וְאֶת־צַפַּ֥חַת הַמַּ֖יִם וְנֵ֥לְכָה לָּֽנוּ׃שְׁמוּאֵל א כו יא
"....God forbid that I should stretch my hand out against Adonai's messiah; and now, take now the spear and the jug of water by his head and let's be on our way!"Shmuel Alef 26:11

4. לִמְשִׁיחַ - one case

Usage: once as לִמְשִׁיחַ יְיָ ("to Adonai's messiah")
 
וַיֹּ֨אמֶר לַֽאֲנָשָׁ֜יו חָלִ֧ילָה לִּ֣י מֵֽייָ֗ אִם־אֶעֱשֶׂה֩ אֶת־הַדָּבָ֨ר הַזֶּ֤ה לַֽאדֹנִי֙ לִמְשִׁ֣יחַ יְיָ֔ לִשְׁלֹ֥חַ יָדִ֖י בּ֑וֹ כִּֽי־מְשִׁ֥יחַ יְיָ֖ הֽוּא׃שְׁמוּאֵל א כד ו

5. מְשִׁיחִי - one case

Usage: once as מְשִׁיחִי ("My messiah")
 
וַֽהֲֽקִימֹתִ֥י לִי֙ כֹּהֵ֣ן נֶאֱמָ֔ן כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֛ר בִּלְבָבִ֥י וּבְנַפְשִׁ֖י יַֽעֲשֶׂ֑ה וּבָנִ֤יתִי לוֹ֙ בַּ֣יִת נֶאֱמָ֔ן וְהִתְהַלֵּ֥ךְ לִפְנֵֽי־מְשִׁיחִ֖י כָּל־הַיָּמִֽים׃שְׁמוּאֵל א ב לה
"....I will raise up a loyal kohen [priest] for Myself, who will do what is in My heart and in My mind; I will build a reliable family for him and he will walk before My messiah for all time!"Shmuel Alef 2:35

 

6. לִמְשִׁיחִי - one case

Usage: once as לִמְשִׁיחִי ("to/for My messiah")
 
שָׁ֤ם אַצְמִ֣יחַ קֶ֣רֶן לְדָוִ֑ד עָרַ֥כְתִּי נֵ֝֗ר לִמְשִׁיחִֽי׃תְּהִלִים קלב יז
There will I make David's horn sprout;
I have laid out a lamp for My messiah!		T'hillim 132:17

 

7. מְשִׁיחֶךָ - six cases

Usage: six times as מְשִׁיחֶךָ ("Your messiah")
 
יָצָ֨אתָ֙ לְיֵ֣שַׁע עַמֶּ֔ךָ לְיֵ֖שַׁע אֶת־מְשִׁיחֶ֑ךָ מָחַ֤צְתָּ רֹּאשׁ֙ מִבֵּ֣ית רָשָׁ֔ע עָר֛וֹת יְס֥וֹד עַד־צַוָּ֖אר סֶֽלָה׃תְּרֵי־עָשָׂר - חֲבַקּוּק ג יג
You set out to rescue Your people,
to rescue Your messiah;
You crushed the house of the wicked's head,
laying it bare from the foundation to the neck - Hurrah!		Trei Asar - Havakkuk 3:13

מָ֭גִנֵּנוּ רְאֵ֣ה אֱלֹהִ֑ים וְ֝הַבֵּ֗ט פְּנֵ֣י מְשִׁיחֶֽךָ׃תְּהִלִים פד י
See our shield, God---

וְאַתָּ֣ה זָ֭נַחְתָּ וַתִּמְאָ֑ס הִתְעַבַּ֗רְתָּ עִם־מְשִׁיחֶֽךָ׃תְּהִלִים פט לט

For Your servant David's sake,

יְיָ֞ יֵחַ֣תּוּ מְרִיבָ֗יו עָלָיו֙ בַּשָּׁמַ֣יִם יַרְעֵ֔ם יְיָ֖ יָדִ֣ין אַפְסֵי־אָ֑רֶץ וְיִתֶּן־עֹ֣ז לְמַלְכּ֔וֹ וְיָרֵ֖ם קֶ֥רֶן מְשִׁיחֽוֹ׃שְׁמוּאֵל א ב י
"Adonai - His enemies will be broken;
Upon him He will thunder in Heaven;
Adonai will judge the furthest parts of the earth;
He will grant His king strength,
and He will elevate His messiah's horn!"		Shmuel Alef 2:10

Now I know that Adonai saved His messiah;
He answered him from His holy heavens:

יְיָ֥ עֹֽז־לָ֑מוֹ וּמָ֘ע֤וֹז יְשׁוּע֖וֹת מְשִׁיח֣וֹ הֽוּא׃תְּהִלִים כח ח
Adonai is strength to them and He is the stronghold of the salvations of His messiah.T'hillim 28:8

 

9. לִמְשִׁיחוֹ - three cases

Usage: three times as לִמְשִׁיחוֹ ("to/for His messiah")
 
מִגְדּ֖וֹל יְשׁוּע֣וֹת מַלְכּ֑וֹ וְעֹֽשֶׂה־חֶ֧סֶד לִמְשִׁיח֛וֹ לְדָוִ֥ד וּלְזַרְע֖וֹ עַד־עוֹלָֽם׃שְׁמוּאֵל ב כב נא
He is a tower of salvation for His king,
He performs kindness to His messiah
to David and to his descendants for evermore!		Shmuel Beit 22:51

כֹּֽה־אָמַ֣ר יְיָ֘ לִמְשִׁיחוֹ֘ לְכ֣וֹרֶשׁ אֲשֶׁר־הֶחֱזַ֣קְתִּי בִֽימִינ֗וֹ לְרַד־לְפָנָיו֙ גּוֹיִ֔ם וּמָתְנֵ֥י מְלָכִ֖ים אֲפַתֵּ֑חַ לִפְתֹּ֤חַ לְפָנָיו֙ דְּלָתַ֔יִם וּשְׁעָרִ֖ים לֹ֥א יִסָּגֵֽרוּ׃יְשַׁעְיָהוּ מה א
So said Adonai to His messiah, to Koresh (Cyrus) - whom I took by the right hand to flatten nations before him, and I will loosen kings' loins - to open portals before him and gates will not be closed....Y'shayahu 45:1

מַגְדִּיל֘ יְשׁוּע֪וֹת מַ֫לְכּ֥וֹ וְעֹ֤שֶׂה חֶ֨סֶד ׀ לִמְשִׁיח֗וֹ לְדָ֘וִ֥ד וּלְ֝זַרְע֗וֹ עַד־עוֹלָֽם׃תְּהִלִים יח נא
He grants great salvations to His king
and performs kindness to His messiah
to David and to his descendants forever!		T'hillim 18:51

 

10. בִּמְשִׁיחָי/בִמְשִׁיחָי - two cases

Usage: twice as בִּמְשִׁיחָי/בִמְשִׁיחָי ("My messiahs" - object of -לִנְגֹעַ בְּ)

Usage: once as מָשִׁיחַ בַּשָּֽׁמֶן ("smeared [or treated] with oil")
 
הָרֵ֣י בַגִּלְבֹּ֗עַ אַל־טַ֧ל וְאַל־מָטָ֛ר עֲלֵיכֶ֖ם וּשְׂדֵ֣י תְרוּמֹ֑ת כִּ֣י שָׁ֤ם נִגְעַל֙ מָגֵ֣ן גִּבּוֹרִ֔ים מָגֵ֣ן שָׁא֔וּל בְּלִ֖י מָשִׁ֥יחַ בַּשָּֽׁמֶן׃שְׁמוּאֵל ב א כא
"Mountains of Gilbo'a, [I pray] there should be neither dew nor rain on you, nor should you ever produce as much grain from which hallah must be separated - for there heroes' shields were treated with contempt - Sha'ul's own shield: was he* not smeared with oil?"

Usage: four times as הַכֹּהֵן הַמָּשִׁיחַ ("the oil-smeared kohén" - synonym for הַכֹּהֵן הַגָּדוֹל "the Chief Kohén")
 
אִ֣ם הַכֹּהֵ֧ן הַמָּשִׁ֛יחַ יֶֽחֱטָ֖א לְאַשְׁמַ֣ת הָעָ֑ם וְהִקְרִ֡יב עַ֣ל חַטָּאתוֹ֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר חָטָ֜א פַּ֣ר בֶּן־בָּקָ֥ר תָּמִ֛ים לַֽייָ֖ לְחַטָּֽאת׃וַיִּקְרָא ד ג
If the oil-smeared kohén sins, bringing guilt on the people, he must bring an unblemished young bull as a sin-offering to Adonai for his sin that he committed.Vayikra 4:3

The kohén who has been smeared with oil instead of him - one of his sons - is to perform it; this is an eternal statute: it must be completely burnt for Adonai.Vayikra 6:15
